Can I withdraw from a course after the end of the semester? When can I withdraw?
No. It is the department policy that instructors may not change a final and posted letter grade to either WF or WP.
Remember, WF/WP - by university policy - are granted only as exceptions, during the semester, when a student misses the drop deadline for extenuating reasons.
A poor course grade is never a reason for a WF/WP.
I can't find the information I need on this website. Who should I contact?
First, contact the specific advisor for your particular program. Click the link "Graduates" at the top of this page for information about program advisors and how to reach them. If all else fails, please contact the department chair.
I feel I received an unfair grade in a course. Can I appeal?
The grade grievance procedure is outlined here.
The course I want to take is closed! What do I do now?
First contact the instructor. Professors are sometimes willing to accommodate graduate students even when the course is full. If the professor cannot accommodate you, please contact your graduate program advisor, who may be aware of alternative options.
What is a masters thesis? Should I do one?
A masters thesis is an in-depth and original research project conducted during your graduate studies. Students generally conduct these projects over the course of several semesters under the guidance of a faculty advisor. All students should consider the "thesis option" because prospective employers and continuing programs (i.e. Ph.D.) are more interested in applicants with substantial research experience.
To learn more about the research activities of the department faculty, click "Faculty". Most faculty members are delighted to speak with graduate students interested in their research.
Who should I contact for advising?
Initially, you should contact the program coordinator for your specific program. You can find that information by clicking "Graduates". If you are conducting a masters thesis, your research advisor often assumes the role of academic advisor as well.
