Combined Bachelor of Science and Doctor of PharmacyEligibility and Admission Criteria |
| Qualified high school seniors who have been accepted into the Biology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, or Biochemistry majors or students who are currently enrolled as majors in Biology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, or Biochemistry at Montclair State may apply. There are no restrictions on state of residency; however, admission is limited to citizens or permanent residents of the United States who have met the criteria for admission to Montclair State. All High School senior applicants for admission to the Combined Degree Program must satisfy secondary school preparation in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The high school grade point average and rank-in-class, along with letters of recommendation from high school teachers, will be of primary importance in evaluating applicants' credentials. Applicants are required to submit scores of the College Board Scholastic Aptitude Tests (SAT) Verbal and Mathematical components. The American College Test (ACT) may be substituted for the SAT. Application deadline: November 15. Students currently enrolled at Montclair State must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and grades of B or better in pre-professional courses required by Rutgers University, as well as a minimum of two semester attendance at Montclair State. Transfer students will be considered on a case by case basis and must have been in attendance at Montclair State for a minimum of two semesters. Students currently enrolled at Montclair State can obtain applications at the Department of Biology and Molecular Biology or the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. These applications are due by March 1. After preliminary evaluation of applications by the Department of Biology and Molecular Biology or the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Montclair State, the respective Department Chairperson or his/her designee will recommend to the Joint Program Committee the applicants to be invited for an interview. The initial interview will be conducted by a member(s) of the Joint Committee. The Joint Program Committee will compile all interviewers' comments and make the final selection of Students to be admitted to the Combined Degree Program. Applicants not invited for an interview, or not selected for admission to the Combined Degree Program after the interview, shall be notified of the decision as early as possible and shall be considered for regular admission to Montclair State, if they are not already enrolled. Financial aid shall be awarded to students in the Program by the Montclair State Financial Aid Office on the same basis as financial aid awards made to other students at Montclair State, and by the Financial Aid Office of Rutgers on the same basis as awards made to other Rutgers students. |
