FAQ Sheet

Q. When I apply to MSU, how do I indicate that I want to get my BS in Chemistry with the joint program for pharmacy?

 A. You check off the "pre-pharmacy" option on the MSU Undergraduate application.

 Q. What happens if I don't receive a B in one of the required pre-professional courses (for the Pharm D program)?

 A. You must maintain a grade of B or better in all of the required pre-pharmacy science courses.

Q.  Does this mean that there are no exceptions and I am no longer in the program?

 A. Unfortunately, there are no exceptions. Graduate school admission for a doctorate in pharmacy is highly competitive. However, you may continue your studies at MSU for the bachelor’s degree in your declared major.

 Q.  How many students are currently in this program?

 A.  This is a new program.  As of this fall, two current senior MSU students are in the first year of the doctoral phase of the program at Rutgers and two entering freshmen were admitted into the program, selected from a large pool of applicants.

 Q.  What are the chances of my acceptance into this program as a freshman?

 A.   As an entering freshman indicating an interest in the “pre-pharmacy” program, you will be considered amongst the pool of candidates   A select group will then be invited to join the program, and must maintain requirements in order to be assured a slot in the doctoral program at Rutgers.

Q. If I do not meet the admission requirement as an entering freshman or I am interested later on, can apply again? If so, when do I become eligible?

A.  You must be enrolled at MSU for at least two semesters and maintain the required grades and gpa before becoming eligible to apply for the program.

Q.  I am currently enrolled in at another college/university. I would like to transfer to Montclair State University for the Pharm D. Program. What do I need to be accepted?

A.  This program is specifically for current MSU students or for entering freshmen.  You may transfer to MSU and your academic advisor can tell you how many credits are transferable.  You must be enrolled at MSU for at least two semesters and maintain the required grades and gpa before becoming eligible to apply for the program.
