Department of Biology & Molecular Biology

The Department of Biology & Molecular Biology offers its students careers in biology, graduate work, or professional programs in medicine, dentistry, medical technology, physical therapy, veterinary medicine, pharmacy and other fields related to biology, by taking the major requirements with a proper selection of electives. Students can obtain certification to teach biology by completing the professional sequence. A minor in biology is also available.

Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is certified by the American Chemical Society. The department offers programs leading to the following undergraduate degrees: B.Sc.in Chemistry, B. Sc. in Chemistry with ACS certification or B. Sc. in Biochemistry. An M.S. in Chemistry degree may also be earned through the department. The department has teaching laboratories for introductory,general, organic, physical and analytical, and biochemistry courses. There are additional research and instrument labs that are used both for coursework and for faculty and student research.

Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science offers a major and a minor in Computer Science and a major in Information Technology. A concentration in Professional Computing is available. This program is accredited by the Computer Science Accreditation Commission of the Computing Science Accreditation Board, a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation and the United States Department of Education. All majors lead to a Bachelor of Science. Professional Computing is available. Graduate programs in Computer Science are also offered.

Department of Earth & Environmental Studies

ES Department at Montclair State University is home to 12 full-time faculty who offer geology, geography, environmental studies and teacher certification programs for approximately 75 undergraduate (BA/BS) and 75 graduate (MA/MS) students.

Department of Mathematical Science

The Mathematical Sciences Department offers bachelors degrees in Mathematics and Physics. Students can obtain certification to teach mathematics or the physical sciences by completing the professional sequence. Minors in mathematics and physics are also available. Graduate programs in mathematics and statistics lead to the Masters degree in Mathematics with four different concentrations (Mathematics Education, Pure and Applied Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science) and the Masters degree in Statistics. The Department hosts one of two doctoral programs at the University, the culmination of a long history of national leadership in mathematics education. The department's 32 faculty are active in research and professional activities, and research opportunities are available for all students including undergraduates.
