The College of Science and Mathematics maintains a leadership roll in the National Science Foundation Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (NSF LSAMP) program. The program, led by Rutgers Newark, promotes the introduction of minority students into the STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and is divided into three clusters of participating schools. Montclair State University is the "hub" of the program's northern cluster.
As of July 2009, CSAM will be recruiting up to 25 "AMPS Scholars" (freshmen, sophomores or transfer students), plus several junior/senior class student mentors. The College plans to have its first cohort in place by Fall 2009 and is looking forward to wide participation by its faculty members in supporting AMPS Scholars in research programs, intern/externships, advising, and moving its AMPS students to successful careers in the sciences.
