Montclair State University now offers science majors the chance to be immersed in research during their junior and senior years. This unique new CSAM program, known as the Science Honors Innovation Program, or SHIP, supports each student's research with an award of up to $5500 for research expenses, plus a summer stipend of $3000 and up to $2000 additional funding for travel. We are now taking applications from the class of 2014, pending available funding.
What is SHIP?
SHIP students will perform original research, present their research at a national or international meeting and write up their work as a senior thesis. The thesis will be developed so that it may be submitted for peer-reviewed publication. As a SHIP student you will have a faculty mentor to help guide your research, to introduce you to the research community in your field of study and to prepare you to be competitive in applying for graduate schools, awards and fellowships. SHIP students will also enjoy special seminars and opportunities to meet and interact with research groups and to visit laboratories on campus and in the NYC metro area.
SHIP is made possible by generous gifts from the Merck and Roche corporations.
SHIP is definitely for me! Am I in automatically?
Admission into the SHIP program is competitive and will be based on academic performance, reference letters and interest in pursuing research as presented in your SHIP Application. We are recruiting twelve new SHIP students to begin in Fall 2011. You must be a major in any one of the CSAM disciplines. Students in any MSU three year program are not able to participate in this program.
